How you can support your local infoshop...

Hello Friends of the Madison Infoshop,

It’s been almost three years since the Madison Infoshop moved to its new home at 1019 Williamson Street (below Nature’s Bakery).   We’ve been surprised and encouraged by just how much interest and support we’ve received from the community since then.

Many of you have had the chance to visit and utilize our vast array of resources  - from public computers with internet access to our popular lending library of videos, books, zines, and periodicals.  This fall we published the 8th addition of our Dis-Orientation Manual that reaches thousands of people and continue to post the Madison Activist Calendar each week that reaches hundreds of others.  We’ve hosted a variety of speakers over the last including the co-editor of Anarchy magazine, global justice activists from South Africa and Peru, and members of the Coalition of Immokalee workers.  Some of you have participated in events that the Infoshop helps to organize, such as the Earth Day to May Day Coalition, the Social Justice Film series, and the Madison Zine Fest.  We also helped coordinate grassroots solidarity efforts in WI following the Katrina disaster, facilitated workshops on such topics as challenging homophobia and nonviolent direct action, as well as provided youth oriented counter recruiting materials.

Many of you may also know that after losing its UW funding, the Madison Infoshop is now almost entirely dependent upon the generosity of the community for its existence.  Besides meeting day-to-day expenses such as rent, utilities, phone, and postage, the Madison Infoshop is constantly seeking to expand its resource library and pursue other outreach activities.  We’ve also launched some new projects this year such as the Wisconsin Books to Prisoners project and the Homeless Think Tank which empowers the homeless community.  While we have had some success at grant writing, grassroots fund raising remains our primary means of financial support.

It is our hope that you recognize and appreciate the vital role that the Madison Infoshop has come to play in the Madison activist community, and that you are willing to continue lending a hand.  Below you can find our annual  “wish list” – equipment, subscriptions, office supplies, videos, and so forth.  If you could help us acquire any of these, we would be most appreciative.  And if it is too big, we’ll even come and pick it up!  Please, contact us before you give us any periodical subscriptions to avoid any duplications.

Of course, financial contributions are also very welcome.  Checks can be made out directly to the “Madison Infoshop” or alternatively to “Family Farm Defenders” if you would like to claim a federal tax deduction (Family Farm Defenders has 501 c 3 status and has kindly offered to serve as our fiscal sponsor).  >>Click here for a printable contribution form<<

We realize there are many demands placed upon people this time of year.   In this current political climate, though, grassroots efforts like the Madison Infoshop are more critical than ever to sustain our struggles  We look forward to your support and invite you to explore the unique resources that the Madison Infoshop has to offer in the year to come.

Best Wishes!
Madison Infoshop
