Volunteer Protocol

To become a regular volunteer we ask for a minimum ONE MONTH COMMITMENT including...
  • completing new member/volunteer orientation with an existing volunteer
  • volunteering ten hours over the course of the month or about two hours per week, not all of these hours need be in the Infoshop itself since they could also occur offsite (such as tabling at events)
  • attend 2 collective meetings
Volunteer responsibilities include these basics:
  • OPEN THE SHOP
  • TALK TO VISITORS!
  • Log visitors and calls
  • Keep track of your key- no loaning, losing or copying
  • Maintaining the Infoshop as a welcoming environment  -standing up to harassment, helping to provide a safe space for marginalized peoples.
  • Clean up after yourself (and potentially anyone not responsible enough to do it for themselves)
Follow policy as listed:
(* denotes requests by our hosts, Nature's Bakery)
  • *No overnight sleeping
  • *No smoking or open flames, including candles
  • *Pets are not allowed access to bakery itself
(however they are welcome in the InfoShop space as long as other volunteers and users do not object)
  • *No “personal” storage in back room
  • *No key under mailbox, or other publicly available key access
  • *No excessive cooking and especially no cooking meat
  • Space remains alcohol-free in presence of minors and alcoholics, or anyone else uncomfortable in the presence of alcohol
  • No use, storage, or distribution of illegal drugs or related activities on premises.

Exceptions to some policies may be made by decision of the collective (and, if needed, in consultation with Nature's Bakery) when necessary for purposes such as hosting special events.

Further details on collective policies will be available during orientation. After the orientation period, or in conjunction with a special project, individuals may request long-term access to a key. The individual should attend the collective meeting to voice their request.
